Winning Over Worry

In addition to the challenges we face in our everyday lives, we are bombarded and overwhelmed daily with an influx of negativity and distressing information through technology and the internet. As a result, many are experiencing anxiety, depression, and fear. This 3-day devotional will help us to learn to rechannel our negative emotions and to win over worry.

Day 1

  • Philippians 4:8

SHIFT YOUR FOCUS

In addition to the challenges we face in our everyday lives, we are bombarded and overwhelmed daily with an influx of negativity and distressing information. Technology and the internet constantly bring the evil and chaos of the world into our lives. These circumstances may cause us to feel anxiety and for our thoughts to become fixated on our troubles. God’s Word offers a solution. When you feel overcome by worry and stress, take control of your thoughts and shift your focus.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8 KJV

REFLECTION: What do you spend the most time focusing on in your thought life?

Day 2

  • Isaiah 43
  • Matthew 28

REMEMBER THE VICTORIES OF YOUR PAST

Your answers to current concerns lie in your past successes. When you reflect on your former victories, they show you that you are capable of overcoming your present obstacles. The same God who was with you in the past is with you now. If God did it once, He can do it again!

“But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Isaiah 43:1-2 KJV

REFLECTION: What is the most recent situation in which the Lord moved on your behalf?

Day 3

  • Matthew 6

LIVE IN THE MOMENT

So often we miss the blessings of our present time because we are focused on the challenges of the future. Let go of the things you can not control. Change what you can and focus on the positive things that are happening right now. Pray and trust God to take care of what you have no power over.

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat or, What shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek); for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matthew 6:25-34 KJV

REFLECTION: What situation do you need to place in God’s hands.
